Dodge Caravan Has Sticky Brake Lights

Q. Hi! I have a 1994 Dodge Caravan, 140,000 miles, runs good. The problem is that the rear brake lights will occasionally stay on after the car is turned off. If I drive around a bit, the lights get un stuck. Any idea what's wrong and how to fix it?

Thanks
Kevin

A. Sounds like the brake light switch is sticking. It's easy enough to replace. Here's how.

  1. Disconnect the battery ground cable.
  2. Disconnect the stop light switch electrical connector, then remove the switch assembly.
  3. Reverse the procedure to install. If switch adjustment is required, proceed as follows:
    1. Push the switch forward until fully seated. This will move the brake pedal slightly forward.
    2. Pull the brake pedal back until it will go back no further. Switch will ratchet backward into the correct position.
