Chevy Blazer Deep And Shallow Pans

Q. I have a 99 Chevy Blazer 4WD, 4.3 liter V-6 with a 4L60-E automatic transmission. I want to change the transmission filter and fluid but cannot tell if I have a deep transmission pan or a shallow. I know the pan is about two to three inches in depth. Can I tell what size pan is on my truck for the VIN code? My glove box manual states that it uses a GM P/N 24200796, but I don't trust this as it is a general manual.

Also I believe that this P/N is a filter kit for a shallow pan. Can you help?

Thanks,
John

A. The difference between a deep and shallow pan is that the shallow pan will be totally flat across the base. The deep pan has a slight step recessed into the base of the pan. Hope this clears things up.
