Ford Escort Fuel Injector Problems

Q. My 1988 Ford Escort has a 1.9 liter 4 cylinder TBI system. There are 101,000 miles on the car and it has automatic Transmission, P/S, A/C. Has a problem where it will intermittently die. I have found that when this happens the Fuel Injector is not working. After a few minutes it restarts and works for a few minutes or a few days.

I have replaced the fuel injector and the fuel filter. Can't seem to tie the problem into a particular time, etc. Always starts when it has been sitting. Usually dies within the first one or two miles if it is going to.

I would like to check the electrical input to the fuel injector when it isn't working, but don't know what it should be. A friend has suggested the Engine Control Module (computer?) Could be a wiring problem. Any suggestions?

A. As you can see in the wiring diagram below, power for the injector comes in from the blue 20 amp fusible link. The ground is provided by the PCM through the tan/white wire. So, there are only three things that could cause the injector not to fire, no power, broken tan/white wire or a bad PCM.
