Buick Century Left Side Mirror

Q. I have a 1992 Buick Century. Someone damaged my left side mirror. I thought it would be easily replaced with a replacement side mirror from Pep Boys but when I started to install the replacement I found that the old mirror was attached to a long cable. What would you recommend? Can I just cut the cables, there are three in a strand, and then install the replacement?

Thanks for your assistance...

A. The cables are for adjustment. You had a original "remote controlled mirror" that was operated/adjusted from inside by a knob on the door panel. If you don't care if it's not the same you can cut the cables, as long as they don't get caught in the window tracks.
