Squeaking Honda Prelude
Q. My daughter has a 1989 Honda Prelude which has developed a noise in the front end. It is not a metal on metal sound, more like a squeaky rubber sound when she turns the wheel. The squeak is there although not as bad, when I bounce the front end up and down. Weird though, last night I had the left side raised on the kerb and when I turned the wheel there was no noise.
It has been suggested that it something to do with a "bush". Your suggestion would be...? Can she continue to drive it?
Regards,
BillA. It sounds (no pun intended) to me a dry lower control arm bushing or possibly a strut mount bushing. If that is what it is then there would be no problem with driving it. However, I can't say that for certain and recommend that it be checked for any possible problems that could compromise the safety of the vehicle.
If it is the bushings, you can try spraying them heavily and over a period of a few days with something like Liquid Wrench® or WD-40®.
