Chevy S-10 Clutch Replacement
Q. Hi Vincent. Quick question on a 1992 Chevy S-10, 2.8 liter, 5 speed, 2WD and 111,000 miles. I got a quote of $550.00 plus tax for a clutch job on it. New clutch, resurface pressure plate and bearings, I think should be about $300.00 in parts right? $200.00 for labor seems high don't you think? Is this job tougher than I think?
I did a clutch on a Ford Pinto and a 1968 Pontiac Firebird; two to three hours of work for each without air tools and plenty of beer!
Thanks,
RalphA. In my neck of the woods the labor rate is about $75.00 an hour. At four hours that would be $300.00 in labor. Sounds about right to me.
If you got the tools, go for it. it's no more difficult than any other rear wheel drive vehicle. As for the beer, talk to my friend Bill. He used to drink while working on cars. Now he orders two beers with his pinky and ring fingers.
