Volkswagen Jetta Brake Lights Stay On
Q. Hello sir, I have a 1999 Volkswagen Jetta GLS. 2.0 liter 5 speed with 102,000 miles with ABS. I noticed tonight that my brake lights stayed on after the car was off. I checked the brake pedal and noticed that it seemed to have dropped a "notch" keeping the brake lights on. If I put my foot under the pedal and raise it, the lights went off.
As soon as I released, the pedal dropped and the lights went back on. I have to put a brick under the pedal tonight until I can get someone to look at it. Any ideas as to why this is happening?
Thank you,
JohnA. I would try adjusting the brake light switch first. it's easy to do. here's how.
Adjusting Brake Light Switch:

- Release brake pedal.
- Connect brake light switch connector.
- Install driver's side storage shelf.
- Operate brake pedal.
- Brake lights illuminate.
- Remove foot from brake pedal.
- Brake lights must not illuminate.
