GMC S-15 Starter Motor Problems
Q. 1987 GMC S-15 Pickup 2.8 Litre, automatic transmission, 4WD, No A/C, 150,000 miles. This vehicle runs hot in the summer, but it does run. It just won't start intermittently after it's heated up. I can jump the contacts on the solenoid and it fires up right away.
I would like to try a secondary ignition switch to make this connection without opening the hood and hoping there's enough light to attempt this type of start. Replacing the starter, which I can do, is next to impossible because of it's location and too expensive at this time. Any suggestions? BTW, it's been like this at least five years.
Thanks!
FredA. If you were to lift the right front of the truck and remove the wheel, you will see the starter much better. Maybe even find a problem.
If not, you could remove the purple wire from the solenoid and make a new wire and run it inside the truck to a switch that can handle the load until you can find the problem.
