Chevy Camaro Won't Start At All
Q. Hello Vincent, Thanks for clearing up question 12 for me. As luck would have it, I'm currently completely stumped as to the situation with my 1983 Chevy Camaro. It didn't start for a while because I had a dead battery, so I got some adapters and put in a post-type battery, connecting to the screw type connectors. Everything is either new or cleaned.
Today I finally started it, knowing that my firing order was messed up in at least two cylinders, it's a 5.0 liter V-8). It revved up, but wouldn't idle. Then it wouldn't start altogether, and no accessories could run. Later on I redid the firing order by the service manual, two of them were mixed up.
When I tried starting it again, the whole thing was dead. No accessories, no ignition. I put in the battery from my van just to see if that was the culprit. I checked resistance of the negative ground wires with an ohmmeter, everything was perfect. I am completely lost.
All the electrical connections in the starting system are snug and clean, all the wires read zero resistance, batteries read good on the voltmeter, there's even a spark when I connect and disconnect the negative terminal. What could possibly be the problem?
A.
It could be an ignition switch or neutral safety switch. Do you have 12 volts to the purple wire at the starter solenoid? It may also be a blown fusible link at the starter.
