BMW Z3 Idle Speed Problem?
Q. Hello, my name is Rick. I have a 1999 BMW Z3 2.3 liter, with 5 speed. I purchased it in 2002 with 22,000 miles, currently it has about 36,000 miles. I seemed to notice the other day that when I first start the engine, the tach registers just a little over 1,000 RPM. Then when it warms up within a minute or so, the RPM goes below 1,000.
It does not stall out or act like it will stall out. Maybe this is just something I have not noticed, but should the tach be registering over 1,000 RPM on first start?
Thanks,
RickA.
Your BMW is equipped with a Bosch fuel injection system. Bosch utilizes and auxiliary injector which adds fuel to your system when the engine is cold. This enrichment will increase your idle speed a little until the engine is warmed up. It sounds like your system is working as designed.
