Building A Chevy Lumina Tachometer
Q. Hello, I was just wondering about the instrument cluster for my car. My hobby is anything electronic and I was going to make a digital tachometer, among other things, out of some old digital alarm clock parts. My car has what looks like a simple instrumental cluster and I have not found any place on the net that explains that area of the car.
My question is if there is a place in the car already made for a more complex instrument cluster that would have a space already made for a tachometer or do I need to make the space and a board that understands the rotations of the engine myself? If not, thanks anyway for looking.

There used to be a company near Philadelphia, Pa. that made digital conversion clusters for Corvettes and Camaros. The name has slipped my memory. These cars almost always came with an analog tachometer though. You may be able to retrofit a cluster from a Z-34 Lumina into your car. Try calling a junk yard.
