Chrysler Fifth Avenue Sun Roof Seal
Q. Vincent, I wrote and asked you about reprogramming an RKE on this car before and everything you told me worked great. Thank you. But now I have another question about the same car. It has an electric sunroof and it worked well for a while but now it has a problem with the rubber seal around the glass itself. It has gotten snagged on something behind the glass and is stretched out.
I'm afraid it is going to hang up one of these times and get stuck wherever it is. What I need to know is the procedure for removing the glass and replacing the rubber seal. Any help will be appreciated.
Thank you...
A. This is something best left to a body or glass shop. But here is the procedure and if you feel you are up to the challenge, go for it. I would recommend you mark around the screws so you can put it back exactly the way it was.
Removal:
- Remove wind deflector mechanism covers.
- Position glass to vent position.
- Position sunshade fully rearward.
- Partially unscrew six connecting nuts (three each side) securing glass panel to side adjustment brackets.
- Slide glass panel rearward approximately 12 mm (½") and lift off.
Installation:
- Install glass panel and slide panel forward 12 mm (½"), logo stenciled on glass, toward rear of car.
- Verify that six glass panel attachment nuts are below top surface of glass adjustment brackets.
- Close sunroof to center glass panel in roof opening.
- Tighten center screws to hold adjustment.
- Open glass to vent position and complete tightening of attaching nuts; torque nuts to (5 foot pounds).
- Close glass, check glass height vertical adjustment and correct as required.
- Install the mechanism covers by sliding lower portion into slot of aluminum guide. During this step, slide rear of lower portion of cover under drain channel.
- Extend upper part on the mechanism cover to side adjustment bracket and while keeping cover as far rearward as possible, push it against glass adjustment bracket and at same time slide cover forward to lock in position.
- Complete installation reverse of removal procedure and adjust wind deflector as described.
If you have to adjust the glass:
Glass Height Vertical Adjustment:
- Open glass to vent position.
- Slide upper half of mechanism covers rearward until cover clips disengage from side adjustment bracket.
- Remove cover.
- Close glass panel, separately loosen four adjusting bolts, 2 each side, and individually adjust four corners of glass.
- Adjust front of glass panel to be 1.0 mm (1/32") below top surface of roof panel and rear to be 1.0 mm above top surface.
- Torque adjustment bolts.

Now I would take it to a glass shop and have them glue a new seal in place.
