Chevy Camaro IROC Burnt Intake??
Q. Dear Vincent, I seem to be having a problem with my vehicle, and was wondering if you could help. I own a 1985 Chevy Camaro IROC. Here goes! When I took my intake manifold off my car, I noticed that there was traces of coolant in the lifter valley. Upon examining the intake further, it looked all burnt-up and very rough on the inside. Now this leaves me with a lot of concerns.
The intake is an original part, and is probably as old as the car. But the short-block is new. Does this mean that the pistons and the new block would look the same on the inside too because of this? Would a "very misbehaved heat riser or exhaust-valve" cause this? I'm also sort of holding-off on pulling off my cylinder heads, because I also suspect that I have a gasket leak.
Thanks so much, for any info that you could provide.
MJA. What is the root of the concern? Most times when you pull an intake off some coolant will spill out of ports and fall into the lifter valley. Are you loosing coolant? Are plugs wet with coolant? Smoke when running? This would indicate a head gasket. You say a new short block. This would mean that it had new head gaskets put on it when installed. If you get back to me with the problem you are having when it's together and running Maybe I can be of more help
