Infiniti Q45 Bad Alternators
Q. I have a 1992 Infiniti Q45 that continues to have an on and off alternator problem. I have replaced four of them in the last six months. All seem to last a couple of months and then without warning they just stop charging. (I usually stall and need a tow home). Well I just replaced this last one I noticed that this one is charging unusually high 17-19 volts.
I know that shouldn't be. Is this just another bad one or is there something else I should be looking at? All the wiring looks fine and pretty clean and I have replaced the battery. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
CJA. Four bad alternators in six months? Let me see how good I am. You replaced the first one and it went bad. You took it back and got a new one under the warranty. That one went bad and, again, you took it back and got a new one under the warranty. This happened two more times. Now this one is bad.
I would suggest getting a refund on this alternator and get another brand at another parts store. I have seen runs of bad alternators like this before. Something in the rebuilding process is wrong and causes the alternators to be bad. Switching brands and stores will correct this.
