Camaro Starting Problem

Q. Hey Vincent, I have a 1991 Chevy Camaro Z28, 305 engine. I have had this starting problem for years now and it is getting worse. The car makes the click sound from the starter, one click per turn of the key. The starter has been changed numerous times and the problem goes away for a couple days then returns.

Camaro Starting Problem

I have had the neutral safety switch changed, the wire from the ignition to the safety switch was changed, the alarm guys removed and installed a new alarm to try to fix the problem, the battery, alternator and starter wires are good, grounded good and tightly connected. They even changed the ignition, the key cylinder part.

The car has a remote start and it does the same click when the remote start kicks in, so I know it is not the ignition switch. The car originally had the factory alarm in it with no remote start, and it had the problem even back then. It was tested for voltage, and amperage drops and shows nothing. Can there be something killing the starters? Or maybe it is something else? Please help!

Frank

A. You need to check voltage at the purple wire at the starter solenoid when it won't start. 12 volts means the solenoid is not operating properly. Anything less than 12 volts means you overlooked a wire or connection somewhere.
