Mercury Cougar ABS Problem
Q. Hi, I'm having a problem with my Mercury Cougar ABS. I drove my car home and everything was fine. A little later I went out and heard a motor running. It's the pump motor on the ABS. I start the car and the brake and ABS lights act as they should. After pressing the brakes a few times the lights come on and then go back off.
But the motor will not stop running unless I disconnect the battery. Is there a relay I should check or maybe the pressure switch. I looked for leaks around the accumulator and pump and motor and found none. Any tips would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
SeanA. Since Ford has been making Cougars with ABS for the last 15 years and you did not see fit to tell me the year of your car, all I can tell you there are no TSB's on this issue. There are different possibilities for this depending on the year and system used.
