Nissan Pulsar CJI CTS

Q. Hey there, I have an Asian import 1997 Nissan Pulsar CJI. Its a sedan and ran okay until now. It sputters at times mostly when in Idle and the exhaust from the tail pipe comes out dark in colour and then has a irregular scent. It even shut off once at the stop light but started as soon as I tried to. It has about 68, 000 kilometers, 1500cc engine, fuel injected, ABS braking and A/C.

My mechanic says it is the Coolant Temperature Sensor that has gone bad but I would like to hear your opinion.

Thank you...

A. The Coolant Temperature Sensor (CTS) is certainly a likely cause. It is cheap and easy to replace so it is definitely worth a shot.
