Town & Country EGR Valve
Q. Dear Vince, I have a 1999 Chrysler Town & Country Van, 3.8 liter engine, VIN: 1C4GT64LXXB545537 The SES light came on and I took it to the dealer. After running the diagnostics they told me it was the EGR valve. They did not have any in stock and would have to order one. They also told me the cost to replace would be $123.00.
I have located this part for around $46.00 and wondered how difficult of a job this was? I would also like to learn how to retrieve the DTC's for this van to be sure that it was diagnosed properly.
Gratefully,
DavidA. Well, first off David, you need a scan tool to get the DTC's out. If you drive it over to any of the large auto parts stores like Auto Zone or NAPA, they will scan the codes for free.
As for replacing it, piece of cake. Unplug the connector and vacuum line. Then take out the two bolts. Clean the old gasket off and slap in the new one. In an hour you'll be done and down the road.
