Floor Jacks And Jack Stands

Q. Hello, I'm a basic car maintenance (Oil/filter, fuel filter, tire rotation, coolant, etc…) DIYer and I'm curious what jack you would recommend if the heaviest vehicle I’ll be lifting weighs 3,700 lbs, with weight distributed 60/40 roughly? Also, when buying jack stands, does this mean each jack stand can only hold ½ of what the pair capacity is listed as?

Thanks so much.
Regards,
Richard

Floor Jacks And Jack Stands

A. 3,700 pounds is just under two tons, so I would recommend at least a 4-ton jack. This will lift the vehicle without pushing the jack to it's limit.

If you buy a pair of 1-ton jack stands, each jack stand will hold 1-ton. In your situation I would recommend 2-ton jack stands.
