Souping Up A Dodge Dakota
Q. Hi Vince, I like your page on auto repair; I have a few questions on a vehicle I just purchased. Vince, I just bought a 1995 Dodge Dakota SLT 2WD from a neighbor It is a nice truck Extended Cab 3.9 liter V-6, automatic transmission A/C, P/W, P/B, cruise control and 70,000 original miles. I purchased it to tow my motorcycle.
I intend to get an open trailer and put my Roadking and my wife's Sportster on it. I also may just put my Roadking in the bed when I get away with some of my gombas. The questions is what can I do to get some good performance out of this truck, make it dual exhaust? Get a hot ignition? KN air induction system? If you could give me some advice I would appreciate it.

A. If you have read much of my site you know I am no fan of those gimmicks that claim to add horsepower, increase fuel economy and bring about world peace. SO I'm not really the right person to ask about this.
I know you can go to a 4x4 specialty shop and get a chip for the PCM that will adjust the timing and other engine parameters to get some more power out of it. I think that would be the best way to go.
