Mazda B3000 RABS Testing

Q. I have a 1996 Mazda B3000 V-6 with 135,000 miles, original owner. The issue I am having is with my RABS, the light on the dash stays on. I checked the wires and voltage at the RABS module, (located to the right of the ash-tray, This is not were Mazda said it was located.) out of the 14 wires 9 of them all were registering the correct voltage, the grounds read ok as well.

I could not get any information on what the remaining 5 wires should read. I replaced the RABS module, light stayed on. On a whim I had the truck running and started to pulling fuses (only the ones in the cab), to see if something on the same circuit is causing the problem.

Light stayed on until I pulled the dash fuse, put it back in and it was on. I defiantly do not have RABS at this time. My next step was going to check the valve, what do you suggest. Any information or suggestions would greatly be appreciated.

Thank you,
Michael

A. I would pull the codes out of the RABS computer and see what they are. It will put you very close to where the problem is. To pull the codes:

  1. Place ignition switch in On position, then disconnect rear ABS test connector at front of engine compartment power distribution box.
  2. Connect a suitable jumper wire between rear ABS test connector black/orange wire terminal and ground, then disconnect wire after one second. Rear ABS warning lamp will begin its diagnostic trouble code display when ground connection is broken.
  3. Count number of warning lamp flashes, including long flash signaling end of display.

When you get the code let me know and we can go from there.
