Chevy Camaro: Hose In A Hose?
Q. When I squeeze the lower radiator hose on this 1977 Chevy Camaro, I can feel something hard inside, like a 1" hose inside the 3" hose. Is this normal? The temperature light comes on, but the water is still cool. Replacing the thermostat did not help. Should anything be inside of the radiator hose? Could this obstruct the water flow?
Thanks...
A. On most older cooling systems, the lower hose is where the pump gets it's coolant from. There is some serious suction at higher RPM's. To keep the hose from sucking shut and starving the pump, they install a wire spring to help the hose keep it's shape. The real question is: is it overheating? You may just have the wrong sending unit in the head. You might have one for a gauge instead of one for a light.
