Dodge Neon Has Serious Short

Q. I have read many of the troubleshooting questions on this site and they help with some of the problems I have with my car. I have a 1996 Dodge Neon which I have had countless problems with. The one that is my main concern is some type of electrical problem in the rear lights. I noticed my front turn signal was filled up with water which quickly drained but corroded the wire.

Dodge Neon Has Serious Short

Shortly after this the turn signal indicator (on the instrument panel) showed a bulb or fuse was out (the opposite of the light filled with water). It was actually a back blinker that was out. After that the same happened with the other side. I KNOW IT'S NOT A BULB OR A FUSE. This is where it gets confusing, since then the brake lights (except for the one on the trunk) went out. The tail lights come on but no hazards, no brake, no backup lights work.

And this did not all happen at once. I took it to a mechanic and they told me they have no idea what the problem is. CAN YOU PLEEEEEEASE HELP ME FIND OUT?

Sincerely,
Kelly

A. I don't know how much I can help you Kelly. There is a short somewhere and the only way to find it is to check it from end to end. The best I can do for you now is to check the harnesses and connectors for obvious signs of damage such as corrosion, cuts or breaks.
