Jeep Comanche Ignition Lock

Q. Hi. I have a 1989 Jeep Comanche, 4.0 liter, automatic transmission, 28,000 miles on new Jasper engine and 200,000 on truck. The key will not turn all the way to start the engine. The key will turn on enough to turn on radio and light up the dash lights. The key is worn really bad and I can pull it out when it is on. Do you have any ideas as to what I should replace. There is also tilt wheel.

Thank you for your time,
Art

Jeep Comanche Ignition Lock

A. The easiest thing to do would be to get a new key. Don't have this one copied, that would just give you two keys that don't work. If you are lucky, the key number is still on a tag stuck in the glove box. If not, go to a Chrysler dealer and give them the VIN number. They can look in Chryslers database and give you the original key number. They can cut you a new key there or take the number to a locksmith and he can cut it for you.

Worst case is you have to replace the ignition lock cylinder.
