Toyota Celica Sticky Throttle
Q. I have a 1991 Toyota Celica GT, 2200 engine, automatic, 81,000 miles, fuel injected, P/S, P/B A/C andCruise. The problem is with the throttle cable I believe. It will occasionally seem to stick or bind and takes a considerable amount of pressure top get it to move. I can see no apparent damage to it.
Amount of pressure required seems to vary. I am leaning towards the throttle tension regulator under the hood which the throttle cable from the pedal fastens to. The assembly does provide a pivot point for transferring the motion to the actual throttle assembly and could have a bad bearing or worn bushing.
Thanks for your help with this.
JimA. Before I go tearing into the throttle cable and it's associated hardware, I would give the throttle body a good cleaning. A gummed up throttle body will cause the same exact symptoms.
