Nissan Stanza Transmission
Q. I have a 1991 Nissan Stanza and need some help to figure out what the problem is on it and how to be able to fix it myself. The symptoms that it is having is 1) the transmission does not go into gear when the gear shift is put into drive or reverse and 2) the shift lock keeps clicking, locking and unlocking the gear shift.
A. If it will not go into Reverse or any forward gear, then the problem is most likely a Line Pressure Solenoid (LPS). This is what controls transmission pressures. You will need a good transmission shop or, better yet, a Nissan Dealer to test it.
If there is rapid activation of the Shift Interlock system, then the most likely cause is a bad Shift interlock control unit. Again, something a Nissan dealer will need to test.
