Pontiac 6000 TCC Solenoid

Q. I own a 1989 Pontiac 6000 LE, 2.5 litre, 4 cylinder. I have owned the car for two years. In cold weather, -10°C and colder, the converter does not stay locked up and will lock and unlock whether driving slower or faster. Very annoying when driving the highway. There was never any problem with the vehicle stalling when coming to a stop.

Pontiac 6000 TCC Solenoid

When the weather warmed up, the vehicle runs fine. A couple of months ago I had a transmission flush done and a new thermostat put it. Now the car shifts fine but wants to stall when I come to a stop. Any suggestions?

Thanks,
K. Davis

A. A busy convertor clutch could be the solenoid dropping out or a bad seal inside the transmission. Could be a sticking valve also. As for the stalling, a bad solenoid will stay on when you come to a stop and give you a violent shudder before the stall. It will then restart and run fine until you put it in drive.
