Nissan Maxima Injector Cleaning
Q. Hello, I just read your article and got a little worried. My 1995 Nissan Maxima GLE has been running fine (150,000 miles) till a couple of weeks ago when it started to stall. The diagnostic code indicated a MAF problem so I had it replace and it runs fine now.
The thing that concerned me was your comments about the fuel injection cleaners on Nissan cars. I added fuel injector cleaner after first experiencing the problem and am worried that I am have damaged the injectors. Can you tell me what it is going to take to clean the IACV and throttle chamber to confirm this?
Thanks,
BarryA. The fuel injection cleaner I referred to was the Nissan Fuel Injector Cleaning System. Nissan uses a very aggressive cleaner which limits injectors to three cleanings with this system before injector replacement.
Not too many Nissan dealers use this system any more, opting to use the system made by BG which is less aggressive and just as effective.
If you are worried about the fuel injector cleaner you buy in the little bottles at the parts store, don't. They are mild enough to put one in with every tank full as maintenance. They are not strong enough to hurt an injector.
