Mitsubishi Eclipse Engine Locked
Q. Vincent: My 1991 Mitsubishi Eclipse's engine locked up. I was going about 15 M.P.H. when it happened. I believe it may have been the result of low oil pressure. Is there anything that can be done to unlock a frozen engine? If you have time, please email information on "locked engine" remedies--if they exist.
Thanks,
WaltA. Nine times out of ten an engine locks up because the connecting rod bearings or the crankshaft bearings wear out and weld themselves to the crankshaft. By the time this happens the chances of saving the crankshaft are greatly reduced. The only way to determine the extent of the damage is to drop the oil pan and see exactly what you have.
