Honda Accord Air Conditioning

Q. I have a 1989 Honda Accord LX. It has a 4 cylinder engine with automatic transmission. It has approx. 127,000 miles on it at present. I have a carburetor and no ABS brakes. I do have P/S and A/C with rack and pinion steering. My problem is that the air conditioner isn't running as cool as it should. The hotter the day, the hotter the air conditioner runs, blowing warm air out.

Honda Accord Air Conditioning

When I first bought this car the air conditioner was charged up for me and it ran well for about a year and a half. What causes this? And what is the best way to solve this problem? Also can it be done by me?

A. You probably have a small leak in the air conditioner and the refrigerant is leaking out. You need a special leak detector to locate the leak and the system will have to be evacuated, the leak repaired, pumped down and recharged.

This is something that a DIY can not do and should have it done at an air conditioning shop.
