Ford Bronco FI Conversion
Q. I have an 1984 full size Ford Bronco with a 351w that was rebuilt a year ago. I want to convert the engine from carbureted to fuel injection, but most of the kits I find online are listed as non-emissions. Can you recommend any kits that are emissions legal?
Or would the best bet be to find a 1987, 1988 vehicle and take everything I need from this vehicle to do this project? The Bronco currently has 252,000 miles on the frame and 7,000 on the new engine with an automatic transmission.
A. You are not going to find a fuel injection kit that will guarantee to pass emissions. They can't. There are way too many factors that effect emissions and plenty that would not be connected to the kit.
It would be a lot of work, but I think getting another truck and switching over would be the best way to go. You'll certainly have everything you need right on hand, that's for sure. And if you shop around, maybe at a junkyard, you can find one with a blown engine that they will sell you cheap.
