Volkswagon Jetta Oil Pressure
Q. I own a 1987 Volkswagon Jetta. Since I did an oil change all of the sudden the oil pressure warning light goes on as soon as the car gets warm. The oil level is okay. The oil I used was the one indicated in the manual. Please let me know if there is trend in this cars to do this and how much do you think I have to spend to fix it.

A. It's probably a bad Oil Pressure Sending Unit. This engine has two OPS's, a low pressure switch and a high pressure switch.
I would put a mechanical oil pressure tester on it just to make sure the actual oil pressure is within specification. If it is, I would replace both switches since they are cheap and easy to change. Just make sure when you change them you don't get them mixed up.
Oil Pressure Sender - Order By Color Color Part Number Price Black 068919081 $6.65 Brown 2028919081D $4.60 White 056919081E $6.10 Gray 068919081A $6.10
The 0.3 bar pressure switch is located on the oil filter flange and the 1.4 or 1.8 bar pressure switch is on the end of the cylinder head.
On 16-valve engines, both switches are located on the filter flange.
