Ford Escort Has Sticking Valves

Q. Ford Escort 1.9 liter 103,000. Bad hesitation/missing on acceleration. Rough idle. My new mechanic pulled the valve cover and one rocker arm was loose; he took a screw driver and popped up the valve. Said this was my problem. A sticking valve.

Ford Escort Has Sticking Valves

  1. Is this a correct diagnosis?
  2. Estimate on a valve job in Oklahoma City area should be what?

JJ

A. It seems like the correct diagnosis to me.

An estimate by me in this venue would be ball park at best. A lot depends on why the valve is sticking. If it is a bent valve then I would recommend replacing all the valves. If it is a damaged valve guide then I would recommend new guides and valves. Best estimate I can make is about $250.00 to $350.00. That does not include the 8 hours labor involved.
