Ford Ranger Belt Tensioner

Q. Vincent, I have a 1997 Ford Ranger 3.0 liter with A/C and would like to know how to change the belt tensioner. Do they normally go bad? The truck only has 34,000 miles. It looks like it is causing the belt to run out of alignment with the other pulleys and causing a squeaking sound. I did change the belt and that didn't help.

Thanks,
Shaun

A. If you look at the bottom picture here, you will see the tensioner. All you have to do is remove the center bolt and take it out. When you install the new one, make sure you line it up correctly.
