Chevy Blazer Needs New Engine
Q. Greetings! Appreciate your feedback on the following; I have a 1995 Chevy Blazer with 101,000 miles. Recently noticed anti-freeze leak. Brought the car to the local Chevy dealer. No overheating no knocking upon arrival at dealer. Service advisor did notice leak upon my pointing it out to him. Later in the day advisor informed me that the coolant was leaking from the rear of the intake manifold gasket.
He suggested replacing the intake manifold gaskets, water pump and a complete engine oil flush. After repairs were performed, knocking was heard which he says is a bottom end knock caused by the engine being run hot. They recommend engine replacement.
Can bottom end knock develop after repairs or would I have heard this prior to bringing car in? I notified Chevy Customer Assistance and the person I spoke with said as the car has over 90,000 miles there is nothing they can do. I asked if others have reported this happening with no response from them. Please note that the freeze plug beneath the starter was replaced within the last two months. Appreciate any comments.
Thank you,
StuartA. If it was leaking coolant outside the engine, it's very possible it leaked inside as well. Coolant in the oil is NOT GOOD! It attacks the bearings. I'm sure it had some help with the intake gasket scrapings going down in the pan as well. But they should have been flushed out with the oil change. Could go with a remanufactured engine or a set of bearing and new crankshaft. I'm sure labor for each would be close.
