Extended Warranty On ABS?

Q. I wonder if you could answer my question soon. I have a 2000 Pontiac Venture with 94,000 miles. I am about to buy an extended warranty (from either warrantywizard.com or carwarrantiesdirect.com).

The difference between the two plans is that one costs $899.00 but doesn't cover the ABS system (but covers the ABS sensors (??)) or the engine computer. The other costs $1299.00 but covers those two areas. Otherwise the two plans are identical. Are those two areas problem prone areas to pay for the extra coverage?

Thanks very much.

A. The ABS system really doesn't do much even at this mileage unless you do a lot of winter driving. The sensors do go bad. The ABS pump should last a long time. The fluid should be changed from time to time so it won't get water build-up in it. As for the PCM, they can go anytime. You don't say how long the warranty lasts. Bottom line is that both systems, if they had a problem would be a couple of hundred dollars to fix. If you're in for a penny, you're in for a pound.
