Chevy Beretta Dead, Won't Start

Q. I have a 1988 Chevy Beretta, auto, air, P/S, fuel injected 2.0 liter. The car was running fine. One day Ii went to move the car and the steering column lock would not unlock. I must have forced it because the car would not start. I really don't know if this had anything to do with the problem?

The accessories will work but once I turn the key to start nothing. I thought it might be the battery it is old but it wouldn't take a charge it wasn't discharged. I put it on a voltmeter and it appears to be fine. I haven't tried jumping it or tested the starter. Could it be a wire in the column? Another thing when I do turn the key to start the seat belt buzzer gets real weak and quits.

A. I think you need to have the battery checked properly. You may have a bad connection at one of the cables. You could have a bad starter. The ignition lock cylinder may have a problem. They have been known to have a gear that turns the ignition switch, fall off the end of the cylinder. First I would look at the battery!
