Nissan Maxima Oil Filter

Q. This is a simple question but it is baffling me. I just bought a 1988 Nissan Maxima, 3.0 liter V-6, standard 5-speed. Even using the owner's manual as a guide, I cannot locate the oil filter. I swear I have spent hours looking from every angle, top and bottom. According to the picture in the manual, it should be "right there" but it doesn't seem to be. Any help?

Thanks...

A. The oil filter is on the block between the engine and firewall, just above the right drive axle. On the 5-speed it is very difficult to get to. What I do is climb on top of the engine so I'm lying on the intake and can look down the backside of the engine. Then I just reach down and feel around for it. The other way to find the oil filter is from underneath the car. If you disconnect the shift rod you will be able to reach the oil filter and remove it.

Not a whole lot of fun.
