Nissan Wires Fixed, Won't Start
Q. 1987 Nissan 4x4 pickup, Z-24, 4 cylinder, 5-speed, 8 spark plugs, two coils, not firing? I recently had alternator problems because the plug kept coming out, so I redid the wires with alligator clips and fired it up, battery light went out for first time in two months.
All was dandy so I shut it off, put my tools away and lowered it of the ramps, two minutes later I tried to start it and it wouldn't fire, there's spark. I cleaned up the wires and rotor and cap, but will not start, it turns over, but perhaps the 55 amp charger I used to start it fried something, I have tried different battery as well, please help. I'm stranded and need to get to work.
Thanks for your time.
A. If you are sure you have spark, then the problem must be fuel. While cranking it, spray some carburetor cleaner into the engine through the throttle body and see if it runs. If it does then it's definitely a fuel problem.
The next thing to do is to see if the injectors are spraying fuel. Check for power at the white/red wires at the injectors. If you have power there, then you probably fried the ECU with a voltage spike from the battery charger.
