Ford Truck Won't Park

Q. Vincent, I have a 1986 Ford truck with a 1972 Ford LTD motor. Engine motor size 302, automatic C4 transmission, 200,000 miles, carburetor and power steering. The question I have is that the truck will not go into Park nor will it start in Park. Also, the key cannot be removed in Park.

However, the truck will start in Neutral. Any suggestions as to what could be causing this problem?

Thanks,
EJ

A. The first thing I would look at is the shift linkage. Something is jammed, broken or out of adjustment. A visual inspection should reveal where the problem is. I think once you find and repair the linkage problem, the no start in Park problem will go away also.
