Mitsubishi NOx Emissions

Q. Since the new laws have came out my 1991 Mitsubishi Eclipse is under scrutiny, and of course it has fail the test. I have looked in Mitsubishi repair manual and it dose not tell me any thing about what I need to have fix. The inspection Report says that it pass all other test but the NOx has failed.

The standard is 945 ppm mine current was 3504 ppm. What can I do to fix this problem.

Thanks,
Frank

A. I would look at the EGR system for a problem. The EGR valve diverts some exhaust gas back into the engine to lower combustion temperatures and prevent the formation of NOx emissions.
