Volvo Injection Pump

Q. HELP! I Have a 1985 Volvo 740 turbo diesel wagon that I LOVE. 186,000 miles (still young). I need information on either rebuilding or replacing the fuel injection pump without going broke! locally I cannot find a reasonable/honest place to repair, I need help to get my baby back on the road again.

This car is not ready to retire yet, still in very good condition otherwise. We've been through to much together to give up on yet. If you have any ideas please let me know. I'm in Columbus, Ohio but will travel in Ohio. If anyone out there has had this problem (finding a diesel mechanic) maybe you can understand my frustration?

A. First off, forget about rebuilding it yourself. It is way too complicated for a DIY to even think about attempting it. Most mechanics, myself included, wouldn't even consider trying to rebuild an injection pump. Even Volvo tells their Dealer Technicians NOT to open them up.

So that leaves you with two options, finding a diesel service shop or getting a rebuilt injection pump from Volvo. Some places you might try are Flora's Diesel Repair in Johnstown (740) 967-1125 and S & R Mechanical in Columbus (614) 755-7601. If they can't help you they probably will know who can.
