Dodge Daytona Cooling Fan Inop

Q. Our Daytona is still overheating. We've replaced the fan relay, the coolant fan switch (temp sending unit), the fan motor, and the fuses. There is power to the fan switch, and we can jump the fan motor to the battery and it runs. However, under normal operating conditions, the fan will still not engage, no matter the temperature. What are we missing?

A. There is a Radiator Fan Switch in the radiator that turns the radiator fan on and off. If you turn the ignition key "ON" and jump the terminals in the connector, the fan should come on. If it does the radiator fan switch is bad and you will need to replace it.

Some models use an ambient temperature switch to keep the fan on after the engine is shut off.. The switch is located on the radiator cooling fan mounting bracket and is used in conjunction with the time delay relay to activate the radiator cooling fan for approximately 5 to 10 minutes with engine off during periods of radiator ambient temperature of 105 0F or above.

The switch is tested using a suitable ohmmeter. When the switch is cold, continuity should not exist. When the switch is warmed to 105 0F or above, continuity should be present. Replace if defective.
