Cirrus Has Weak Spark

Q. I have a 1997 Chrysler Cirrus in my shop and it has a real bad hesitation. It has 49 psi fuel pressure and I have determined the spark (on all cylinders) is very weak. I was wondering if there was a common problem with this type of car or maybe you ran into this before.

I also checked the spark at of the coil (inside the distributor). Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Steve

A. I haven't had enough of them come into the shop to notice any definite trends and Chrysler has not released a TSB on it if it is a common problem. However what you describe sounds like a weak ignition coil. I would recommend doing a coil resistance test. Measure primary coil resistance at the 2 pin distributor connector. Resistance should be between 0.6 and 0.8 ohms. Then measure the secondary coil resistance between the coil tower and each terminal of the 2 pin distributor connector. Resistance should be 12k to 18k ohms.
