Strange Honda Problem

Q. I hope you can tell me what this phenomenon is; no one else can. This happened to me recently with me brand new (well, to me, anyway) 1999 Honda Prelude. (132 cid 4-cylinder, 5-speed manual, 32,400 miles, injected, ABS, P/S, A/C, cruise.

I'd driven the car about four days, and was in a parking lot. I started up and noticed the radio wasn't working. I went on into the street thinking I had just hit a wrong button or something. But the radio still didn't work after more checking. Also: neither did the blower fan or the A/C switch. AND... the ABS light was on. About one minute later, everything came back on and was working normally. The ABS light went out. Now this is a fairly new car, with an intact, and additional, warranty.

But here's the really strange part. I had the same trouble with my old car, a 1989 Acura Legend L (same equipment, except 6-cylinder engine). It acted up this way several times in the last few months I had it. My mechanic, who I consider very competent, didn't know what it was. I tried AllExperts, and they didn't know. Now AllExperts has no Honda people available, and so I'm here to bother you.

So far my 'new' car has only done this one time, but it's only been a few days. I hope you can help. Thank you for listening.

Tom

A. I wish I could help you with this one, but I have never come across it and I haven't heard anything about it. I checked the Honda TSb's and there is no mention of it there either.

But there is still some hope. The Honda Experts from AllExperts are now in my forum and you will find them there, in addition to about a dozen experienced technicians as well. if you post this question there I'm sure someone will be able to help you out. Keith, the "HondaDocta" is our leading Honda expert.
