Chevy Impala Body Mount Bushings
Q. Hello, I want to replace the body mount bushings, upper and lower, on my 1966 Chevy Impala. Can you provide an instruction how to do this? My biggest concern of course is how to separate the body from the frame in order to replace the upper bushing.Thank you,
FrankA. You will either need a couple of floor jacks or a lift. The biggest problem is making sure the bolts will come out without breaking or stripping. If you can access the welded nuts on the bolts so you can spray them with some penetrating oil, great.
Remove all the bolts on one side and jack up the body so you can sneak out the upper bushings. It's a fairly straightforward job if you can lift the body off frame.
Think SAFETY first. Don't put you hands anywhere that they can become trapped if the body comes down! A couple of hefty blocks of wood placed between the body and the frame when removing and replacing the bushings would be a good safety measure. Good luck.
