Chevy Cavalier Warning Lights All On
Q. I have a 1996 Chevy Cavalier. I recently had to replace the battery cables because they were shorting out. I have also replaced a melted butt fuse on the wire running from the clutch position switch to the hold in coil. The car seems to run fine now, but the warning lights; coolant, check oil, ABS etc., lights seem to go off and on randomly when the car is Idling. I usually get the ABS light and the brake light, but if I let off the brake pedal, they go away. When the car is in motion, the temperature gauge stops working and the rest of the warning lights come on.
I have run diagnostics and so has my mechanic, and we both got no codes. I have also checked the battery voltage, which were 14.4 volts running and 12.3 volts cold. Does the PCM need to be reset/replaced? Could it be a problem with the voltage at the alternator?
A. I'm guessing you are talking about a melted fusible link at the starter solenoid?? Maybe more than one melted or you have a bad connection in one that feeds all the areas that are having lights come on. You really need a wiring schematic to make sure. I have see loose fuses in the fuse box cause some problems like this as well.
