Chevrolet Cobalt Nearly Stalls At Stops
Q. First I would like to thank you for reading my question. I own 2005 Chevrolet Cobalt 2.2 with 21,000. I have a problem that when my car is about to come to a complete stop the rpm's drop to 500 and the car stops suddenly and shakes a little. This only happens when I want stop the car. If I want to slow down the car, my rpm's go down as normal.I have gone to the dealer and they said there is no issue. I know there is an issue because I know a couple people who have this car and they said they have never experienced this problem. I have no idea what it could be. A couple people have told me that it could be that my idle is too low. I doubt this.
When my car is warm the idle is about 700-800 rpm's. Have you ever experienced or heard about this issue. I don't want it to get to the point of my warranty running out and me being up the creek. Thank you again for your time.
Thank You,
VincentA. While I see no particular bulletins referring to a stall, there are a couple of Product Information bulletins that could be related to you. One says a bad ground connection at G103 can cause stalling or rough idle. Another P.I. referred to intake valve deposits causing various driveability problems.
I would re-visit the dealer and ask for the service manager. See if he will road test the car with you so you can show him what it's doing. They must duplicate the problem in order to have a chance at fixing it.
