Jeep Heater

Q. Mr. Vincent Ciulla, I have a problem with the heating and AC vents in my Jeep. This is a manual type factory installed heater and AC unit. No matter what position the switch for the air vent control is in, (floor, dash vent, defroster or mix) the greatest amount of air comes

from the bottom (floor vent) with very little air coming from the vent the switch is positioned to. It seems the door controlling the bottom vent is always open, not allowing the air to go to the appropriate vents when the switch is changed to different positions.

A. The door is actuated by a vacuum motor and it is either not getting vacuum, the vacuum motor itself is bad or the door is stuck. To determine which it is first remove the vacuum line to the motor, and see if it is getting vacuum. If it isn't, then the problem is in the control panel. If it is remove the vacuum motor and with the line connected, see if the motor moves when you change positions. If it doesn't, then the motor is no good. If it does, then the door is stuck or broken. Try moving the door by hand to see which it is.

If the door, or it's mount, is broken, the heater case has to come out to repair it.
