Toyota Battery "Overheats"

Q. 1986 Toyota Pickup, 146,000 miles, 4 cylinder, 5 speed, manual transmission, fuel injected, P/S, A/C, cruise control.

PROBLEM: Battery drains overnight. Took it to our mechanic. He did all the fuse checks. He said when he pulled the EFI fuse it quit draining but doesn't know much about Toyotas so we unhook the battery unless we drive it. Now the battery overheats. (2 new batteries) Don't want to just start replacing parts unless we have to. Hoping you can narrow it down for us.

Thank you,
Rhonda S.

A. It sounds like the battery is being overcharged to me Rhonda. Any mechanic can check to see if the alternator is putting out too much current for the battery to hande.

Since you have a current drain also, I would suspect a short in the system somewhere might be contributing to the problem. The only way to fix it is to have someone with Toyota experience test the affected circuit and locate the problem.
